As a photographer Pinterest is another great platform for me as it’s very visual and a great place to showcase my photos. But Pinterest isn’t just great for photographers. As a search engine it’s actually a great tool for business owners in any niche. So today I’d like to share some tips on how to use your personal brand images on Pinterest.
The best thing about Pinterest is that it’s a search engine so people that come to check you out here are usually finding you after they’ve made a search for something in particular. And if your content is showing up in their searches then there’s more chance they will choose you to work with.
With 200 million monthly active users Pinterest may not be the biggest platform. But don’t think it has any less power because of that. Pinterest has a highly engaged audience and plenty of people turn to Pinterest to make buying decisions. So if you are positioned as an expert in your niche chances are you will be the person they buy from.
It’s a great platform for visual branding. But the biggest thing Pinterest has over other platforms is its ability to drive traffic to your website, sales pages, YouTube and just about any other place you want to direct traffic to. With every pin being able to redirect to any link you want it to, you have huge opportunities to drive traffic to your offers.
There’s a few different places where you can use images on Pinterest so let’s take a look at each of them.
Ok let’s take a deeper look at each of these.
A big mistake I see a lot of people making is that they don’t have their own images in their banner. This is one of the first things people will see when they land on your Pinterest profile. So you should be using this section to showcase your best work and give them a good idea of what they can expect from your profile.
You’ll notice when you go to the settings of your banner, Pinterest will generally have it defaulted to showing your most recent pins.
I recommend creating a ‘Best Of’ style board where you only pin your best pins. Then you can set this as the board that will feature in your cover banner.
Please note, the current recommended size for Pinterest pins is 600 x 900 (vertical pins are always recommended)
Like all social media platforms, your profile image is one of the most important. And this is no different on Pinterest.
You want a high quality image that looks approachable and clearly shows your face. Depending what you do for business it could also include an important prop that relates to who you are. For example, in my profile image I’m holding my camera. You’ll also notice it’s the same image as my Facebook profile.
It’s good to keep some consistency between your various profiles so people start to recognise you and your brand.

A great way to keep your Pinterest account looking consistent is to use board cover images. This way when people do a quick scan of your boards it will be your images that are showcased rather than others.
I haven’t done this on my own profile as yet because up until now I have only been showcasing my photography. However as I am branching into sharing educational content this is something I will also do.
For now here’s some examples of profiles that do this.
And of course, Pinterest wouldn’t be Pinterest if there was no pins. Pins can either be straight photos. Or else the other popular pins are graphics which lead to things like blog posts, YouTube videos, sales pages etc.
And if graphics aren’t your specialty, why not consider joining us inside the Confident Space where we provide new themed templates each month. These are designed for the various social media platforms and you can edit and make them your own.
Please note, the current recommended size for Pinterest pins is 600 x 900 (vertical pins are always recommended)
Hope it’s helped, and I can’t wait to see you using more of your images. If you haven’t already had a shoot with me and you’re in need of refreshed images for your Pinterest account take a look at how I can help you with that here.
